This near pair of Neo-Gothic brass pricket candlesticks, dating from the late 19th century, features an elegant verdigris patina that beautifully highlights their finely cast architectural details. Most likely of ecclesiastical origin, they reflect the Gothic Revival fascination with medieval forms that flourished throughout Europe during the period.
Each candlestick is composed of a tall, slender shaft surmounted by a traditional candle spike and a pierced drip pan, the pans decorated with trefoil openwork. The tripod bases are equally finely worked, with pierced Gothic Revival ornament and arched foliate motifs that lend the pair a light, architectural quality. Subtle variations in the design identify them as a fausse paire (near pair), illustrating the layered history often found in antique ecclesiastical furnishings assembled over time.
Whether displayed in a richly layered period interior or used as a striking accent in a contemporary space, these candlesticks bring sculptural presence, historic character, and a quiet sense of grandeur.
