Opulent 19th-Century Six-Light w/ Sparkling Crystal Drops - 28¾" x 17¼"

This opulent 19th-century six-light chandelier combines a tall twisted blown-glass central stem with scrolling gilt-metal arms and an abundant arrangement of varied crystal pendants. Swags of faceted beads fall between the arms, joined by pear-shaped drops and elongated prisms that gather into a generous cascade below. Above, a crown-like upper tier of crystal strands further draws the eye upward, reinforcing the chandelier’s elegant vertical silhouette, while a large faceted crystal ball finial provides a sparkling finish at the base. Each light rests on a scalloped glass bobeche and is topped with a custom-made cream fabric shade, finely edged in gold. The shades are removable, allowing the chandelier to be displayed either dressed for a softer, more intimate effect or uncovered for greater brilliance.

The chandelier has been carefully restored and rewired in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence by a passionate specialist in historic lighting working closely with Mathieu Lustrerie, the renowned Provençal atelier specializing in the restoration and creation of fine historic lighting. Some elements may have been sensitively adapted during the restoration, and the piece has regained its original luster and presence and presents in very good overall condition. Particular attention has been given to the quality of the electrification. One bobeche has been replaced at some point and differs slightly from the others.

Richly ornamented and full of sparkle, the chandelier has a glamorous presence without losing the delicacy created by the clear crystal and open scrolling arms. With the shades in place, the light becomes softer and more layered, making it particularly appealing above a dining table where a more dressed, atmospheric chandelier can bring warmth and a sense of occasion.
