An early 20th century wicker armchair distinguished by its intricate handwoven construction and sculptural silhouette, likely produced in northern France or England. The high back rises in a scalloped crest above a woven panel, while the sweeping arms curve outward and terminate in tightly coiled wicker scrolls. The seat and frame are densely woven, creating a sturdy structure softened by the warmth of natural fibers. Subtle variations in tone reveal the use of naturally colored and stained wicker strands, lending depth and visual richness to the weave.

The chair displays remarkable craftsmanship, with an abundance of decorative details throughout. Braided borders frame the seat and back, while looping scrollwork and twisted wicker elements animate the apron, legs, and underside of the arms. The profusion of coils and curving forms gives the piece a lively, almost theatrical presence typical of highly decorative wicker furniture produced in northern Europe around the turn of the 20th century. Such richly ornamented chairs were often used in verandas, winter gardens, and parlors, where they served as decorative showpieces as much as seating. The chair remains in very good antique condition with gentle variations in tone and minor wear consistent with age and use. The natural wicker has developed a warm patina that highlights the complexity of the weave.

Both decorative and inviting, it brings texture and sculptural interest to a sunroom, veranda, or bedroom corner by a large window, pairing beautifully with natural materials and greenery.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
