A tall pair of Napoleon III bronze candelabra from France, mid to late 19th century, each composed of three parts with a removable upper candelabrum. The cylindrical stems are finished in black with irregular gilt touches imitating stone, set between intricately decorated collars. From a central knop issue four scrolling branches with leaf-cast candle cups and drip pans, surrounding a raised central light to create a five-light model. Some of the once-removable arms now show slight movement, a testament to their age and use. The tripartite bases are richly cast with rococo scrolls, acanthus, and cartouche motifs, providing both stability and a lively outline. The bronze retains a warm, aged patina, while the faux-marble paint shows scattered losses; overall, the pair remains in good, timeworn condition consistent with its history.
As a symmetrical pair they lend presence to an entry console flanking a gilt mirror, or bring height and soft candlelight to a grand dining table. They also sit well on a mantel or sideboard, where the dark columns and intricate bases add depth against stone, wood, or lacquered finishes. Whether fitted with traditional wax candles or realistic flameless ones, their multiple lights create a dramatic play of shadow and glow, enhancing both formal and atmospheric settings.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
