A striking pair of Italian lounge chairs dating from the 1970s, distinguished by their sculptural suspended construction and bold architectural presence. Combining brutalist influences with fine cabinetmaking, the chairs create a beautiful contrast between thick cognac leather and solid wooden frames with strong geometric lines. The leather sling seats are entirely suspended within the structure and held in place by an ingenious system of wooden keys and joinery, with almost no visible metal fixings. This clever construction gives the chairs both visual lightness and a particularly deep, comfortable seat.
The rich leather has developed a beautiful patina over time, with soft creasing and natural wear enhancing the warmth and authenticity of the pair. The curved wooden frames show careful craftsmanship and balanced proportions typical of quality Italian design from the period.
Both sculptural and inviting, these chairs would work beautifully in a modernist, brutalist or rustic contemporary interior, bringing warmth, texture and strong character to the space. The leather shows wear and patina consistent with age and use, including a broken seam to one of the headrests, which does not detract from the overall presence of the pair.
