Pair of 19th-Century French Directoire-Style Armchairs w/ Original Tapestry Upholstery

A charming pair of French Directoire-style armchairs, likely dating from the late 19th century. Crafted in painted beechwood with their original softly patinated grey-green finish, the frames embody the restrained neoclassical vocabulary associated with the Directoire period. Both chairs retain their original tapestry upholstery, decorated with laurel wreaths, floral garlands, and neoclassical reserves depicting birds and lyres, traditional symbols of peace, harmony, and the arts, all rendered in a delicate palette of faded claret, straw, sage, and soft blue. Original nailhead trim remains throughout.

The frames are structurally sound and stable, with attractively worn paint and original upholstery showing age-related wear throughout.
