This handsome pair of large French cast iron planters, dating to around 1900, features richly cast Louis XV-inspired ornamentation with floral garlands draped between oval cartouches. Their undulating rims, scrolling feet, and crisply modelled relief lend them an elegant, sculptural presence. Their generous proportions are given a fresh, playful twist by a bright blue later repaint, creating an appealing balance between historic ornament and contemporary color.
They retain their original sectional construction, with the castings assembled using visible screws, a traditional method of manufacture that contributes to their authenticity. The apparent vertical seams, which may at first resemble cracks, are in fact original assembly joints rather than later damage. Both planters remain in good antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use.
Whether used as cachepots or displayed empty as sculptural objects, these planters transition effortlessly from the garden to the home. On a terrace, in a seaside retreat, or flanking an entry console, their joyful blue finish lends a fresh perspective to their historic ornament.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
