This charming pair of antique engravings presents a delightful glimpse into both interior and exterior scenes, framed in pretty gilded casings with rounded corners and intricate pearl detailing. The first engraving captures an intimate interior moment with elegantly dressed individuals engrossed in a game of dominos. The second depicts the traditional and dramatic "l'halali" hunting scene.

L'halali is a traditional French hunting call that signals the final stage of the chase, marking the moment when the hunted animal, usually a stag or boar, is caught and can no longer escape. A key element of chasse à courre (hunting with hounds), l'halali is sounded by the lead hunter on horseback using a horn, announcing the imminent dispatch of the animal. This moment carries ceremonial significance, often followed by a ritual honoring the quarry, in which a branch—typically oak or holly—is placed in its mouth as a sign of respect. Integral to the tradition of vénerie (French mounted hunting), l'halali is also accompanied by distinct horn calls that have been passed down through generations, preserving the heritage of this age-old practice. Both engravings are set behind glass, preserving the vivid colors and delicate lines typical of 19th-century French "colores graveurs" antiques. The condition appears good, lending an air of authenticity and history to these striking works.
