This elegant pair of gilt bronze wall sconces, each with three scrolling branches, reflects the exuberant curves and foliage motifs of the Louis XV style. The finely cast bronze frames are enriched with acanthus leaves and sweeping lines, supporting three lights with faux candle fittings, their drip-pans and candle sleeves imitating the warm glow of wax. The gilded surfaces catch the light beautifully, enhancing their sculptural form.

These sconces were formerly housed in a hôtel particulier belonging to the Duc d’Orléans, the title held by the Bourbon-Orléans branch of the French royal family. Among the most notable was Louis-Philippe I (1773–1850), who reigned as King of the French from 1830 until 1848. Before becoming king, Louis-Philippe lived in Paris at the Palais-Royal and maintained several hôtels particuliers, where furnishings of this refinement would have reflected the family’s rank and taste. Pieces such as these sconces recall the prestige and sophistication associated with the Orléans household.

A decorative and historical pair, they remain both functional and highly decorative, ideal for a traditional or eclectic interior.
