These two antique pitchforks come directly from Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter Wells's farmhouse in Vaison-la-Romaine — found, as so many of their best things are, at a brocante. Patricia and Walter have spent years gathering antique French garden and agricultural tools from these irresistible flea markets, and this pair is among the finest of that collection.
Each pitchfork has a long, slender wooden handle, weathered by sun and use to a warm silvery-brown, topped with a hand-forged wrought iron fork of three tines. The iron has darkened beautifully with age — matte, textured, slightly irregular in the way that only hand-forged metalwork can be. Laid side by side, the two are closely matched but not identical.
Leaned against a stone wall, mounted in a barn or garden room, or stood upright in a tall ceramic pot, they bring texture, history and a grounded sense of place to any interior or outdoor space.
Heavy wear and rustic condition consistent with age and use.
