Pair of antique French landscape oil paintings - 13" x 16½"

A beautiful pair of landscape oil paintings from the early-twentieth century. Both show idyllic spring or summertime French rural scenes. In the first, a shaded country road leads the beholder to a cypress pine and tall cross. Behind these rise a church and dramatic mountain range, further in the distance. A grassy field and large tree form the foreground of the second painting. A traditional French village fills the center of the composition, with the stately ruins of Roman columns at left. The background is filled with an airy pale blue sky and a verdant sloping hill. The gilded rectangular frames are in good condition.

The pair would bring a sense of calm and repose, and naturally a touch of French country, to an interior.
