A superb pair of Italian Savonarola armchairs from the late eighteenth / early nineteenth century. They have a timeworn gilt finish with pretty decorative floral motifs and scrolls. Note the lion head terminals (where the gilding has worn off and the wood underneath is visible) as well as the winged masks on the front of the frames. The silk-covered cushions date from the mid-twentieth century.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
