"The light shines through them brilliantly," Patricia exclaims of these matte porcelain candleholders from Atelier-A — and once you set a flame inside one, it is easy to understand why. Globular and palm-sized, each holder is thrown in the same unglazed white porcelain as the pendant lights that hang in the students' kitchen at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter's farmhouse and cooking school in Vaison-la-Romaine. All are the work of the same potter at Atelier-A, and the resemblance is unmistakable. The surface of each sphere is pressed with foraged botanicals — seeds, stems, dried flower heads — whose impressions remain as shallow, ghostly reliefs across the matte white body. The finish is chalky and fine to the touch, and when candlelight fills the interior, those botanical traces glow from within, the porcelain wall thin enough to transmit the flame rather than simply contain it. They are a natural fit for a dinner table, a windowsill or a stone mantelpiece, used singly or as a pair. Tuck a tea light inside each one and let the botanicals do the rest. Note: As each piece is individually thrown by hand, slight variations in size and shape are natural and part of their artisanal character.
