This lovely pair of low, oval footstools, dating from the first half of the 20th century, has a simple, understated design, enlivened by beautiful geometric upholstery. Their generously padded, softly domed seats are covered in a woven fabric combining warm cream and delicate coral tones. A finely striped piping follows the oval edges, providing a neat finish and a subtle decorative contrast. The wooden frames have a straightforward construction, with smooth, gently curved sides and four short, slightly splayed legs. Their warm brown patina shows scratches, small marks and wear consistent with age. The upholstery and matching piping are both in excellent condition, with their colors and patterns beautifully preserved. There is a little movement in the wooden structures, so these pieces are best used for resting feet or decorative accents rather than as step stools.

The graceful curves of their oval seats, simple wooden frames and delicately patterned upholstery give these footstools a relaxed, understated elegance.

They would make a delightful pair in front of a sofa or two comfortable armchairs in a cozy sitting room or library.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
