This pair of Thonet bistro chairs, dating from the early 20th century, is made from bentwood with embossed plywood seats. Their classic design features tall, gently curved backs with a central loop, slender splayed legs and rounded seats decorated with a delicate floral and scrollwork pattern. Both chairs retain their original Thonet paper labels beneath the seats. The dark brown finish has developed a rich, well-worn patina, with areas of rubbing and exposed lighter wood that reflect years of use. There is a small loss to the front of one leg, but both chairs remain stable, sturdy and fully functional.
Simple and elegant, these chairs have the familiar charm of traditional European cafés and bistros. Their curved lines and slender proportions make them easy to incorporate into a kitchen or breakfast area, while the worn finish gives them a relaxed, lived-in character. They would work equally well as occasional chairs beside a desk or small table.
