This charming matched pair of Art Nouveau brass urns from the early 20th century features elegant amphora silhouettes resting on spreading circular bases with fine beaded molding. Each urn is adorned with tall openwork handles that rise to heart-shaped terminals entwined with delicate leaves, while the bodies are decorated in repoussé with cascading grape clusters and meandering vines framed by softly incised whiplash lines. The brass has developed a warm, mellow patina with areas of oxidation and traces of verdigris at the bases, complemented by light surface wear and minor dents that speak to their storied past and add a nostalgic touch.
As a decorative pair, they frame a mantel or console beautifully, flanking a mirror or painting to create balance and height. On a dining buffet, they bring subtle luster and a vinous theme, especially striking against marble, oak, or ebonized woods. They would also make a refined accent in a wine room, where their grapevine motif echoes the spirit of conviviality. Use them as sculptural garnitures left empty, or style them with dried branches or grasses for texture, or with glass liners if fresh stems are desired.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
