This pair of French marine watercolors, signed Bessac and dating to the mid 20th century, depicts small, colorful sailboats at low tide with fine atmospheric detail. One composition is in portrait format, showing brightly painted boats drawn up on the shore against a backdrop of cottages, while the other is in landscape format, with vessels moored on calm waters beneath a hazy horizon. Both works are rendered with fluid brushwork in a palette of blues, greys, and soft ochres, capturing the lightness and immediacy of the coastal scene. They are presented under glass in simple gilt wood frames with cream mounts, showing minor wear and toning consistent with age.
As decorative pieces, the pair brings a fresh coastal note to a home. Hung together in a hallway, dining room, or study, they balance each other in scale and orientation, offering visual rhythm and charm. They can also be displayed separately, one above a console and the other beside a window, where their soft colors and maritime themes introduce calm, light, and a gentle evocation of the sea into both traditional and contemporary spaces.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
