A pair of nicely proportioned French mid 20th century cast iron garden urns on their original plinth pedestals, which lend them presence and architectural stature. Each shallow campana bowl shows bold gadrooning below a crisp egg and dart lip, raised on a fluted socle that sets into the square tapered pedestal for a secure fit. The iron reads as charcoal and lead grey with a dry matte surface enlivened by a light natural patina and scattered oxidation developed through years of outdoor exposure.
Although no maker’s mark is present, these urns follow the classical French garden tradition popularized by 19th century foundries, inspired by antique krater forms and cast using traditional iron techniques.
Perfect as a welcoming pair flanking a doorway, garden path, or orangery bay, they also work indoors hosting seasonal branches, moss, or citrus. Style them empty as sculptural anchors beside a fireplace, or plant with clipped box, olive, or trailing ivy for a classical note that brings texture and quiet authority to both contemporary and traditional settings.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
