Pair of Italian Baroque Demilune Consoles/ Center Table, Late 17th Century

A handsome late 17th-century Italian walnut center table, likely from Northern Italy, designed to separate into a pair of matching demilune consoles. The broad hand-planed top retains a wonderfully mellow walnut patina, while the open trestle base is enlivened by scroll-cut supports joined by broad arched braces and a shaped serpentine stretcher. Assembled, these flowing elements unite to form a remarkably sculptural composition, the rhythm of the opposing curves drawing the eye from every angle. Separated into two demilune consoles, the design takes on a lighter, more restrained character, each half retaining the same elegant balance and sculptural quality.
