Pair of Italian Space Age Chrome and Acrylic Chandeliers by Gaetano Sciolari - 24¾" x 24¾"

A rare pair of Italian nine light chandeliers by Gaetano Sciolari, circa 1970, in polished chrome with clear lucite accents. The nicely proportioned, architectural frame is composed of stacked tubular uprights linked by crisp crossbars, each terminal finished with a clear acrylic cap that diffuses the glow. The chandeliers have a beautiful sense of movement, with every angle revealing a distinct perspective. Very good vintage condition, showing light surface scratches, a few small specks of oxidation to the chrome, and minor marks to the chain. The plexiglass remains clear and luminous. Original label retained; wiring is functional and should be inspected by a qualified electrician.

Gaetano Sciolari (1927–1994), the Roman designer celebrated for bringing Italian glamour to postwar modern lighting, developed modular compositions that balanced modernist rigor with seductive materials. Achieving remarkable international success in the 1960s and 1970s, his lighting became emblematic of a new cosmopolitan sophistication. Embracing the optimism of the Space Age, Sciolari’s designs captured the era’s fascination with technology, geometry, and the promise of the future, while always maintaining a distinctly luxurious finish. The lattice of cylinders and the cool interplay of chrome and plexiglass seen here are hallmarks of his atelier, reflecting precision craftsmanship and a refined mastery of light, shadow, and reflection.
