Pair of Large Vintage French Three-Light Glass and Metal Sconces - 22½" x 19¼"

This large pair of vintage French Marie-Thérèse wall sconces has the light, highly decorative construction characteristic of the style. Named after the 18th-century Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, the Marie-Thérèse tradition is distinguished by curving metal frameworks dressed with clear glass, rosettes and faceted drops. Here, each sconce is arranged with three candle-style lights on scrolling arms, with shaped glass elements following the curves of the structure. Pressed-glass drip pans, flower-shaped rosettes and an assortment of faceted pendants bring further sparkle, while the open framework keeps the overall appearance airy.

The sconces have been carefully restored in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence by a passionate specialist in historic lighting, and the electrification has been thoughtfully renewed while preserving the original decorative elements. They are fitted with fireproof faux candle sleeves and dimmable flame-effect bulbs, giving the generous six-light arrangement a warm and lively glow.

The combination of clear glass and cool-toned metal gives the pair a particularly clean, fresh character. Providing ample light, these sconces would work beautifully on either side of a large mirror in a bathroom or dressing room.
