A sculptural pair of late 19th-century stone gate finials, each carved in the form of a basket overflowing with flowers in full bloom. The compositions are richly layered with roses, daisies, and clustered blossoms, their petals deeply modeled and interwoven to create a sense of natural abundance. The basket bases are articulated with a crisp woven pattern, grounding the lush floral arrangements above.
Carved in hand-worked limestone, the surfaces present a soft gray tone animated by gentle green highlights acquired through age and exposure to the elements. Originally made to crown entrance piers, the finials retain an inviting presence and a beautifully matured patina. Condition is weathered, with softened edges and scattered small nicks consistent with long outdoor use, all of which contribute to their charm and authenticity.
Placed atop plinths to frame a garden walk, flanking a doorway, or brought indoors on pedestals to anchor an entry hall, these finials lend a sense of welcome and quiet romance.
Matching pair with fruit baskets available here for separate purchase.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
