A chic pair of low slipper lounge chairs with matching ottomans by Pierre Lottier for Valenti, Spain, circa 1950s. The supple, hand-woven leather seats in deep cognac are interlaced over carved oak frames with curule-inspired X-legs, turned stretchers, and a neat border of brass nailheads. Low-slung and nicely proportioned, they invite an easy repose while maintaining firm support. The surfaces show a rich, tactile patina with gentle creasing, burnished high points, and a mellow sheen to the leather, while the oak presents a warm, lived-in tone. There are minor scuffs, small areas of edge wear, and light weathering to the frame, all consistent with age and use.
Pierre Lottier was a French designer active in the mid-20th century who settled in Barcelona, where he created interiors and furniture for elite clients and collaborated with makers such as Valenti. Valenti’s Barcelona atelier was known for its exceptional leatherwork and cabinetry. The woven strap technique, long favored in Spanish seating, provides resilient comfort, and the curule silhouette subtly references Renaissance and campaign forms. The result is a refined mid-century idiom balancing tradition, simplicity, and craftsmanship.
These seats are ideal beside a fireplace, in a paneled library, or as a relaxed reading pair in a bedroom. The ottomans extend their comfort or serve as occasional perches. Their warm leather and sculpted oak harmonize beautifully with limestone floors, bleached woods, and textured textiles, bringing an inviting note to both rustic Provençal settings and sleek contemporary interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
