A lovely pair of Louis XVI-style antique medallion-back chairs dating from the start of the nineteenth century, France. They sport a pretty upholstery featuring cream and grey-blue floral cut velvet motifs on a yellow silk background. The open back features a single wood bar running vertically down the frame with the upholstery visible through either side. Their original, light grey and pale mint-painted patina is slightly crackled and exposes traces of the wood beneath over the passage of time. The chairs rest on four fluted legs echoing the Louis XVI style's Greek and Neoclassical influences connected with die joins at the top. A delightful pair of side chairs to bring a touch of French charm to a dining room setting or to add beautiful symmetry to either side of a mirror or console in an entry hall.
