Pair of Napoleon III Style Giltwood Salon Chairs - 35½"x 17¼"

A striking pair of small-scale French giltwood side chairs, made in the mid-20th century in the spirit of the Napoleon III salon chair style, with all the theatrical elegance of the period. 

Each chair is richly carved with Louis XVI–inspired neoclassical motifs, and finished in a bright, highly lustrous gilt. The lyre-shaped backs are deeply carved, creating a bold and dramatic play of light and shadow. Fluted legs, beaded aprons, and delicate foliate cresting complete the ornate design. The seats are freshly upholstered in a blue and ivory fan-patterned fabric that contrasts beautifully with the vivid gold frames.

The gilding remains very bright, with light wear to the edges and legs consistent with age and use. The chairs are stable and in good overall condition. Their petite scale and decorative character make them best suited to occasional use: ideal flanking a console, or placed in a bedroom corner, or pulled into a living space when needed, adding a touch of decorative drama to a refined interior.
