A refined pair of neoclassical wall sconces by Maison Charles, crafted in France during the mid-20th century. Each sconce is cast in gilt and patinated bronze with a warm, satin gold finish. The elongated backplates are decorated by two parallel arrows bound with ribbon, centering an octagonal plaque with a classical mask in relief against a dark ground. Two gracefully scrolled arms support finely chased cups with cream sleeves; tasselled finials complete the lower termini. Signed to the reverse, the pair is in good condition with minor rubbing to the gilding, light surface oxidation, and small nicks to the candle sleeves consistent with age and use.

Drawing on the Louis XVI vocabulary of the late 18th century, the design blends trophies of arrows, anthemion, ribbon and tassel ornament, and the measured geometry of the octagon. Maison Charles, founded in Paris in 1908 by Ernest Charles, became renowned for its meticulously cast and hand-chased bronze lighting, which combined traditional French craftsmanship with modern sensibility.
