A charming pair of contemporary floral still lifes signed by Philippe Lazare, slightly different in size and presented in ebonized wood frames. Signed lower right, the compositions take inspiration from the Flemish still-life tradition: one depicting a basket overflowing with tulips, roses, chrysanthemums, and blue blossoms, the other a bouquet of golden daisies arranged in a dark vessel within an arched niche. Rich colours emerge from softly shadowed backgrounds, creating a warm and timeless atmosphere. Both paintings are in excellent condition, with only minor wear to the frames consistent with age and handling.
Inspired by the flower paintings of 17th-century Flanders and Holland, these works celebrate the beauty and variety of nature through carefully observed blooms and subtle contrasts of light and shadow. Lazare demonstrates a confident command of colour and composition, using delicate brushwork to capture the varied textures of petals and foliage, while the softly modulated backgrounds create depth and atmosphere without distracting from the floral arrangements. The ebonized frames further reinforce the connection to Old Master painting while providing an elegant contrast to the vibrant bouquets.
Their modest scale makes them easy to place throughout the home. Displayed together as shown, they create a refined focal point on a narrow wall, in a hallway, powder room, or dining area. They also work beautifully within a gallery wall, where their rich colours and dark frames add depth, warmth, and a touch of timeless elegance.
