Pair of Petite French Hand-Forged Iron & Molded-Glass Lanterns, c. 1930 - 17¾" x 7½"

A charming pair of petite French hand-forged iron lanterns dating from the early 20th century, likely around the 1930s. Each has a four-sided faceted frame fitted with textured molded-glass panels and is suspended from a short decorative chain of flattened, twisted links. The ironwork is particularly appealing, with scrolling flourishes and small hand-worked canopies that give the lanterns a surprisingly distinctive presence despite their modest scale. Both retain a richly weathered rust patina that softens the metal and adds to their character. The lanterns are currently unelectrified and would require wiring before use; no visible cracks were observed in the glass panels.

Their petite scale is one of their great advantages, allowing them to bring the character of old French ironwork to spaces where a larger lantern would feel too imposing. Hung as a pair in an entryway, hallway, small dining area, or covered terrace, they would create a warm, intimate pool of light, while the textured glass and wonderfully weathered iron retain plenty of presence even when unlit.
