A poetic pair of petite French bronze mirrors dating to the late 19th century, each framed by an ornate openwork surround of scrolling foliage crowned with a stylized, star-shaped leaf crest. The bronze retains a warm, mellow golden patina that softly highlights the depth and intricacy of the casting. The silvered glass plates are heavily desilvered, with clouding and scattered losses that produce blurred, atmospheric reflections, lending the mirrors a distinctly timeworn and lyrical character rather than a functional one. The reverse sides are fitted with plain bronze backs and hanging hooks that appear to be later replacements.
Hang them side by side in a powder room, flank a doorway, or layer one above a mantel vignette to catch and soften candlelight. Their intimate scale makes them lovely beside a bed, within a gallery wall, or perched above a console where their patina adds quiet depth. The pair brings a gentle, poetic mood to an interior, offering a touch of old world romance.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
