This pair of petite Louis XV style armchairs dates from around 1900 and features delicately carved hardwood frames, likely beech, finished in a warm honey tone. Each chair is defined by a shapely caned back set within a molded outline, scrolled open arms, and a serpentine seat upholstered in mustard yellow velvet with nailhead trim. Cabriole legs and softly carved knees complete the graceful silhouette. The caning presents well, while the velvet seats are tired, benefiting from reupholstering. That said, the chairs remain structurally sound and can be appreciated as they are for decorative use. The frames show small, old worm holes that speak to the age of the wood and add to the authentic, timeworn character of the pieces.
These small scale armchairs bring warmth and lift to a room, the airy caned backs balancing the richness of the mustard velvet. Place them as a welcoming pair in an entry, flanking a console or fireplace, or use them as occasional seating in a bedroom or dressing room. Their gentle color harmonizes with natural wood, stone, and neutral textiles, and provides a lively counterpoint to darker painted furniture. They also work beautifully at a writing desk or small game table, adding grace and a quietly collected character to refined spaces.
