This petite fausse paire of Louis XV–style giltwood mirrors, France mid-20th century, offers a graceful Rococo presence with their identical cartouche-shaped frames in carved wood. Finished in traditional gesso and gilt, they display lively C and S scrolls, acanthus flourishes, small rosettes, and a pierced crest above a ribbon-tied clasp. The gilding has a warm, softly timeworn glow with areas of red bole peeking through, while the plates show gentle foxing and speckling that deepen their charm. The backs still carry their mid-century paper linings. Although made together, they are not mirrored in opposition, hence their description as a fausse paire.
Their jewel-like scale makes them perfect for a powder room, for flanking a bed above nightstands, or for weaving into a salon-style gallery wall with other gilt frames. They bring movement and warmth, and their non-matching composition invites a lively arrangement that lends a Rococo flourish to both traditional interiors and clean-lined contemporary spaces.
