A pair of hand-molded glass tiles from Provence, late 20th century, with elongated, gently vaulted profiles, softly rounded ends, and free-cut edges. Their glossy surfaces shimmer with painterly swirls of amber, moss green, ochre, cobalt, and garnet, enriched by subtle rippling and scattered micro-bubbles that heighten their artisanal character. The coloration reads as a marbled veil suspended within the clear body of the glass
Inspired by the traditional canal roof tile of the South of France, historically shaped on the thigh to achieve its soft, ergonomic curve, these sculptural forms reflect the studio glass movement that flourished in Provence in the 1970s and 1980s.
Mounted on custom backplates or stands and fitted for electricity, the pair would function beautifully as lamps or wall sconces, casting a soft, sun-washed glow while showcasing their expressive Provençal palette. Whether used as lighting or displayed on a console, studio table, or within a niche, these tiles stand as artful objects with sculptural presence.
Light wear.
