Pair of Tall Mid-20th Century Fiberglass and Lacquered Wood Table Lamps - 18"

A striking pair of table lamps, possibly French or Italian, dating from the 1960s or 1970s. Each lamp combines a large spherical shade in translucent honey-toned fiberglass with a turned wooden pedestal base finished in glossy dark lacquer. The fine, web-like fibers remain visible throughout the shades, creating subtle variations in tone and giving the globes an appealing depth and texture even when unlit. A narrow metal ring finishes the opening at the top of each shade, adding a crisp, refined detail against the organic surface of the fiberglass. The turned bases bring a more traditional element to the design, while their flared profiles and repeated molded details introduce rhythm and balance beneath the generous globes. The pair presents very well overall, with age-related wear including a small chip to one base and a stable crack to the other. One metal ring moves slightly, and one shade displays a visible line that reads as a crack but does not compromise its solidity. 

Their bold, unusual silhouettes have an almost totemic quality, giving the pair a strong sculptural presence even when unlit.
