A pair of vintage Domaine de la Mordorée carafes from Chanteduc, from the personal collection of Patricia Wells. Patricia explains that Domaine de la Mordorée is “one of our favorites; we still have a lot of their wine in our cellar at Chanteduc.” Companionable and practical, they speak to the easy rhythm of her table, where good bottles are given a little air before a meal shaped by markets and garden. One of the carafes is featured on p. 220 of Salad as a Meal, by Patricia Wells.
Each carafe is blown glass with a generous, low-bellied body, a trim neck, and a softly rounded lip that pours cleanly. The bowl is etched with the domaine’s small bird emblem, discreet and charming. A gentle veil of cloudiness has formed over years of use and enjoyment, an honest patina from the cave, and they are fine to use today. Their broad base helps open a young wine efficiently and sits comfortably within reach on a sideboard or tray.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
