A quietly dramatic pair of French stoneware rectangular trays, late 20th century, defined by molten glazes that fuse clay, fire, and color into one expressive surface. Each tray features a shallow central well and a stepped rim, the glossy glaze forming an abstract composition of poured and splashed enamels in rust ochre, slate, and charcoal, animated by streams of milky white and pools of deep cobalt. The result is painterly and spontaneous, with each tray reading like a small abstract canvas. Both are signed to the underside, though the signature is indistinct, and remain in very good condition with light edge wear, a small rim nick to the smaller tray, and a few minor kiln specks and glaze skips typical of studio firing.
Use the pair on an entry console for keys and sunglasses, on a desk for clips and pens, or on a nightstand for jewelry. Their graphic glazing invites wall display as a small diptych, hung side by side or staggered to read as abstract paintings. The warm, mineral palette sits well with oak, rattan, and linen, while the cobalt notes provide a quiet pop of color on open shelving or a console.
