This petite Venetian mirror dates to the 1940s and features an octagonal surround framing an oval plate beneath a scrolled crest. Hand-cut mirrored panels with beveled edges are wheel-engraved with floral sprays, mounted on a wood backboard, and finished with a softly silvery tone enriched by gentle age to the silvering. The mirror presents a pleasingly timeworn patina that speaks to its history. A few of the small glass beads that once capped the fixings are now missing, and there is a fine hairline crack, minor edge nicks, and light speckling to the plate, all contributing to its authentic antique character. Venetian mirrors have been celebrated since the Renaissance for their refinement and brilliance, perfected by generations of glassmakers on the Venetian islands.
Graceful and luminous, its petite scale makes it ideal for a powder room, an entryway corner, or beside a bed, where it will catch the light and add quiet sparkle. The gentle patina pairs beautifully with painted furniture, gilt accents, and marble surfaces, bringing a refined, collected mood to both classic and contemporary interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
