Petite Antique French Ivory-Glazed Earthenware Soup Tureen, circa 1900, Without Lid - 6"

This petite French earthenware tureen was made by Lunéville around 1900 and is appealing for its simplicity and graceful proportions. Its rounded bowl rises from a gently flared pedestal foot and is finished in a soft ivory-white glaze, with two scrolling handles adding just enough ornament to the otherwise restrained form. The tureen remains in good antique condition, with a softly aged surface and areas of wear to the glaze, particularly around the rim and handles, that add to its charming antique character. The original lid is no longer present, but the open form feels complete and decorative in its own right.

Its modest scale and monochrome finish make it especially easy to place and use. In a kitchen, it would be charming filled with fruit, shallots or garlic, while it could equally serve as a cachepot for a small plant on a console or as a centerpiece on a dining table.
