This delightful little French footstool, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, has a traditional Louis XIII-inspired design, with beautifully turned wooden legs connected by decorative stretchers. Its small rectangular seat is upholstered in a lovely textured fabric featuring an elaborate leafy motif in shades of olive green and ocher against a cream background. A row of aged brass studs neatly finishes the edges. The wood has developed a warm, slightly dusty patina, with marks and wear consistent with age. The brass studs also show some oxidation, adding to its antique charm.
The contrast between the rather formal turned woodwork and the generous botanical pattern is particularly appealing. Its petite proportions make it a lovely accessory beside a favorite armchair in a library or sitting room, perfect for keeping a cup or book within reach while adding a little texture and French country charm.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
