This small wooden box dates from the early 19th century, most likely from the Lyon/Rhone area of France. The date 1817 is painted on the lid. The top section opens with a lid while the lower section opens with a front drawer. It is beautifully hand painted with a maritime scene on the cover and floral patterns on the inside. Most likely used for storing precious documents and jewelry. Beautifully timeworn. There is no key and the box is unlocked.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
