Petite black-glazed earthenware flask with a globular body, short collared neck, and four pierced lug handles for threading a carrying cord. The glaze is a deep charcoal black with subtle iridescence and areas of natural pooling. A fine example of artisanal French pottery from the mid-20th century, it remains unmarked. In very good condition with minor glaze irregularities, light surface wear, a few firing specks, and a timeworn braided rope suitable for hanging. This form follows the long French tradition of utilitarian field canteens designed to be slung over the shoulder or hung on donkeys and carriages. The black finish was produced in several regions of France, making it difficult to attribute this piece to a specific provenance. By the mid-1900s, rural potters continued to craft these humble vessels both for everyday use and as decorative homages to traditional country savoir-faire
Hang it by its rope on a kitchen wall, pot rack, or peg rail to bring an authentic rustic texture to the space. It also displays beautifully grouped with copper, chopping boards, and other utilitarian pottery on open shelving. On a console or mantel, it serves as a sculptural accent and can hold a small bundle of dried flowers.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
