This petite French pedestal in painted fir, circa 1900, features a square chamfered top set over a slender cylindrical column and a square plinth. The original faux-marbre finish is rendered in mottled tones of terracotta, salmon, and sage, with a darker green base, imitating richly veined Breccia stone. The surface retains its deliberate veining and soft glazing, now gently muted by age. Scattered paint losses, abrasions, and a slightly warped top enhance its timeworn character without affecting stability or function. Ideal as a stand for a small bust, vase, or sculptural object, this piece provides a graceful vertical accent in a living room, entry hall, or library. Its compact proportions suit a corner vignette beside a fauteuil or console, while its mellow, weathered surface harmonizes easily with both traditional décor and pared-back contemporary spaces. Paired with verdant foliage or a glazed amphora, it underscores its classical inspiration while adding quiet presence and poetic charm.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
