A petite French mahogany pedestal cabinet dating from the early 19th century, veneered in beautifully figured mahogany and topped with an elegant Saint Anne gray marble slab. Inspired by the traditional French semainier, a compact chest originally designed with a drawer for each day of the week, this cabinet is designed to keep everyday essentials neatly organized while incorporating a cleverly integrated writing surface. The clean, rectilinear form is fitted with six drawers retaining their original brass pulls and decorative escutcheons, while the upper drawer features a sliding writing surface that glides back to reveal a hidden compartment with divisions for stationery. Resting on small brass casters, the piece remains in good antique condition, retaining its rich, mellow patina, characteristic age cracks to the veneer and minor age-related imperfections. The drawers operate with the firmness typical of age. No key.
