Petite French Still Life w/ Cherries, 1889 - 13¾" x 18"

This petite late 19th-century still life, dated 1889, is painted in oil on canvas and depicts a scattering of ripe red and dark cherries arranged beside a cut fruit and a simple, hlaf full glass. Set against a warm brown ground, the composition has an intimate, understated quality, with the brilliant reds of the cherries standing out beautifully against the more muted earthy tones. The painting is signed C. Commenge and dated 1889 at the upper left. It has been cleaned and restored and is presented in a simple period wooden frame whose warm tone complements the palette of the painting vey well.
