A petite domestic holy water font from southern France, dating to the late 19th century, in a rare pedestal form with a pierced lug for suspension. The chalice-shaped basin stands on a small foot and is notably light, finished in a warm straw-cream glaze with manganese slip decoration forming the IHS monogram and cross. The IHS monogram is a traditional Christian symbol derived from the first letters of the name of Jesus in Greek. Widely used on devotional objects, it marks the piece as intended for prayer, blessing, or protection.
The glaze shows natural speckling from firing, while the rim has small chips and the foot shows wear consistent with age and use. These subtle signs of time enhance its authentic character and quiet devotional presence. Place it on a nightstand or study shelf to introduce a subtle spiritual note, or display it among a collection of vernacular pottery for added depth and character.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
