A petite confit pot from the southwest of France, hand-thrown in glazed terracotta and dating to the early 1900s. The baluster form rises to a gently waisted neck with a rolled rim, set on a narrow ring foot. The upper two thirds are coated in a rich green glaze, pooling and shifting from apple to deeper bottle tones, while the lower section remains unglazed in pale, sandy clay with light surface deposits that reflect age and use. The hand-shaped body shows soft irregularities that add to its rustic charm. Condition is very good, with attractive glaze variations, a few firing speckles, and a small nibble to the rim.
Rooted in rural pottery traditions, such vessels were used to preserve duck or goose in fat before refrigeration. The glazed upper sealed the contents, while the unglazed base helped regulate temperature in cool storage. Its smaller size suggests everyday pantry use, ideal for modest quantities or rendered fat. Placed on a shelf or table, it brings a gentle note of color and texture. It works equally well on its own or grouped with other pottery, and can be used as a small utensil holder or a simple bud vase.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
