Petite Late 19th Century French Cast-Iron “Chambord” Urn w/ Timeworn Patina - 10¾" x 16¼"

A petite cast iron urn with bold scroll handles and a deep bowl, this late 19th century piece carries a rich rust-brown surface and sculptural presence. The rim shows a crisp leaf-tip border, the body is gadrooned, and the circular pedestal rises on a square plinth. This low Medici urn corresponds to what is traditionally known as the “Chambord” model, a designation that consciously evokes the Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley, one of the most emblematic monuments of the French Renaissance. While not a direct replica of any specific object at the château, the model draws on the classical vocabulary and monumental symmetry associated with Chambord’s gardens and architectural ornament. The urn displays a timeworn surface with oxidation and light pitting consistent with age, resulting in a richly patinated appearance. One handle sits slightly crooked, most likely due to a damaged internal screw; this minor flaw contributes to the object’s character and authenticity.
