Petite yet quietly grand, this mid-19th century French Louis Philippe mirror presents the period’s characteristic rounded rectangular profile with a softly arched top and a beaded inner edge. The carved and gessoed frame is gilded and engraved with delicate foliate garlands, its surface mellowed over time to a warm satin glow with gentle wear along the edges. An unusual small hook crowns the crest, a charming survival from its original method of wall mounting. The original glass shimmers softly with scattered foxing and a light atmospheric haze, rendering it more evocative than purely reflective. Solid for its size, it has a reassuring weight that speaks to its quality and craftsmanship.
This mirror lends a poetic note wherever it is placed. Hang it above a console, layer it on a mantel, or let it lean on a shelf, where its moody foxing catches the light and creates a softly atmospheric shimmer. The small scale invites pairing within a gallery wall, or use the crest hook to suspend it from a velvet cord for a subtle flourish. Its aged gold, engraved garlands, and silvery plate bring depth and quiet character to bedrooms, entries, or dressing spaces, offering a timeless accent that enriches both modern and traditional interiors.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
