A petite amphora form vase in scavo glass from Murano, mid 20th century. The softly rounded body rises to a slender neck and flared mouth, finished with two applied loop handles. The glass has a luminous blue gray tone with a velvety mineral bloom and subtle iridescent highlights typical of the scavo technique, giving the surface the appearance of ancient glass weathered by time. Small bubbles and tool marks from the hand blown process attest to its artisanal making, while the intentional patina recreates an antique look. A hairline is visible on the base. After the war, Murano glassmakers revived classical shapes inspired by ancient Roman vessels long admired by travelers and collectors.
The scavo technique, created by applying mineral salts to hot glass, produces a distinctive surface with iridescent and lightly encrusted areas that recall glass unearthed from archaeological sites.
This delicate petite vase brings a subtle sense of age and refinement to a space. Its cool blue gray tone, softly iridescent surface, and timeworn texture catch the light gently, while its modest scale allows it to be placed with ease. The small amphora form introduces a note of classical elegance and is perfectly suited to holding a single stem flower. Its weathered finish lends warmth and character, making it a discreet yet evocative presence in a room.
