This petite water pitcher from Ardèche, as indicated by the maker’s stamp beneath the base, originates from southern France in the early 20th century and is handcrafted in glazed terracotta. The well-rounded belly swells from a small ring foot to a short upright neck with a gently rolled rim. A sculptural arched strap handle bridges the mouth, while a short raised spout is balanced by a small loop handle set opposite. The glaze is a lively speckled finish: a warm honey-yellow ground mottled with chestnut and soft olive tones. Glossy and light-catching, the glaze pools around the handle and spout, enhancing both its tactile appeal and depth of color.
Style it on open kitchen shelves beside copper and cutting boards, group it with green- and yellow-glazed jars for a collected look, or place it alone on a console to introduce warmth and texture. With a small liner, it can also hold a sprig of rosemary or a few clipped branches for an understated table accent.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
