A well-loved fixture at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter's farmhouse and cooking school near Vaison-la-Romaine, this pine kitchen island has earned its place through years of honest, daily use. Patricia recalls that they bought it in Vaison itself, from a local kitchen design shop. It stood first beneath the famous bright-red Lacanche rotisserie oven before migrating to the students' kitchen.
Built from warm, honey-toned pine, the island's oval top is inset with two panels of dark slate — practical, handsome and pleasingly robust. The body is solidly constructed with panelled cupboard doors fitted with simple black knob hardware, a turned wooden towel rail on one end, and a sliding cutting board that tucks neatly away when not in use. It carries the honest patina of a working kitchen: furniture that has been used, appreciated and relied upon.
In a contemporary kitchen, this island would earn its place immediately. The cool slate surface is ideal for pastry work or serving; the cupboards and pull-out board offer generous, well-organised storage. It would be equally at home in a farmhouse kitchen or a more urban space in search of warmth and character — and it arrives with the kind of provenance that no amount of careful sourcing can manufacture: years at the heart of one of Provence's most celebrated tables.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
